So class today was surprisingly interesting. They gave us a lecture on the benefits of acupuncture and how it should be included into our medical school curriculum which I have no problem with. Then here comes the interesting part.

Our professor showed us a video where part of the Chinese medicine involved connecting with their inner “chi” to heal sick people. Someone in the video used his mind to make people jerk and feel pain without even touching them. So without physical contact, they claim they are able to control the mind and heal by connecting with their “chi”.

Amazingly, most of my classmates concluded during the discussion session that although they do not understand this, it works and they would have no problem referring this method of alternative medicine to their patients.

My big issue is that why is it acceptable for us to be taught spiritual beliefs of the Chinese in our medical school curriculum and even recommend it to our patients but then get a huge lawsuit for praying for your patients? Why encourage one religion and then blatantly oppose the other, one which apparently this country was founded on. Did I miss something?

Also, how does this concept of believing in an inner “chi” tie in with our Christianity? What does the Bible say about this? Are Christians supposed to accept this? Is this just man’s way of searching for something to fill the void in their hearts, for a sense of a higher power, a sense of divinity?

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
